Who is Diego Bunuel?
Ever since I watched my first episode of "Dont Tell My Mother..." on the National Geographic Channel, i was fascinated by the places he visited. Locations and countries that the ordinary guy dose'nt know of or have heard of. Places that are at times seen at a glance by the ever-controlling media, and are even stereotyped. Diego Bunuel goes to these kinds of places. Let's start off with a brief bio of him.
Diego Bunuel is the grandson of Luis Buñuel Portolés, a famous 20th century surrealist filmmaker. That's basically all i know. However, his style of presenting is casual. He acts like a normal visitor when in a country like North Korea or Colombia and it is this casuality that brings to it some light humor in some of his situations or conversations that he strikes in.I also gained knowledge on what it is like on these places that are regularly war-torn, lawless, protective and heavily choreographed.
Here's what I learned from him. It may be a must when going to specific countries:
1. While in Colombia, a bulletproof vest is not enough. Get a full bulletproff suit!
2. In North Korea, stick to the script because almost everything there is choreographed. And it is also mandatory, like eating balut for foreigners, to give flowers and bow down to their 70 foot high bronze statue of their "Great Leader".
3. In Congo, Don't rely on the police for protection, they are "43%" effective.
4. In these places, manage not to get yourself killed.
5. Learn in advance the native language of the destination country...
6. ...and keep a smiling face!
